Tender Awarded

The contract to build the 75,000-square foot community centre on Ninth Line in Churchill Meadows has been awarded and construction is set to begin in June.  The winning firm is Aquicon, the same company that built the newly renovated Meadowvale Community Centre at 6655 Glen Erin Drive.   There was a slight delay in awarding the contract because the bids from all four pre-qualified firms were higher than budgeted mostly due to a high supply of large-scale construction projects currently in the market and limited number of firms capable of doing the work.  Staff managed to find $4.5 million in savings and Council approved an additional $2.75 million to the now $51 million budget to build the facility and phase 1 of the sports park.
