It’s difficult to measure something when you stop it from happening in the first place.

That is the premise of The Dam, a local program running out of the Meadowvale Town Centre where caring adults provide a safe space to mentor and assist high school youth who have nowhere else to go. For almost 30 years, this drop-in has served as a ‘dam’ to stop the flow of youth from ending up on the streets of downtown Toronto. Some youth from our community have benefitted directly from the important work of The Dam. Some kids’ paths were forever changed for the good.

On Feb. 20, 2021, I and four of my friends will be doing a 5-km walk along the Lisgar Meadowbrook Trail in support of The Dam as part of a nation-wide event called the ‘Coldest Night of the Year’. Our team is called “Stronger Together” because it’s when we all work side by side that we can make a real difference for those in need in our community.

The Dam has set a goal of raising $70,000 in support of their outreach programs to youth to keep them from becoming hungry and homeless. Our team’s goal is $1,000 – we’re almost there and would love to surpass it! Can I count on your support?

Thanks so much!
