The Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Sports Park is slated to open to the public this summer. The multi-year, $51 million construction project for the 65,000 square foot building and 55-acre greenspace located at 5320 Ninth Line is almost complete. Thankfully, construction is permitted to continue during the pandemic under stringent health protocols in order to complete the finishing touches. I had a chance to visit the site prior to the Province’s Stay-At-Home order and am so thrilled with this state-of-the-art facility. From the leisure trails, playground, splash pad, basketball court, skateboard park, turf sports fields, and open play spaces, I know the community will enjoy these wonderful outdoor amenities. And inside, the six-lane pool and massive therapeutic warming tank have been tiled and the triple-size gymnasium floor is ready to be installed. Together with staff, we are aiming for a soft opening of the facility with some drop-in activities mid-summer, and gearing up for full programming in the fall, subject to provincial health measures.

Please note that this community centre and sports park is still an active construction site. Teenagers were recently seen using portions of the unfinished skateboard park earlier this month. Please do not take chances with your safety. The entire site is not open to the public and trespassers will be prosecuted.
