Speed limit reduced in north Churchill Meadows

The north part of Churchill Meadows is the next part of Ward 10 to undergo a speed limit reduction as part of the roll out of the Neighbourhood Area Speed Limit Project in Mississauga. Two areas are scheduled to be done concurrently and together cover the area bounded by Britannia Road, Ninth Line, Thomas Street and Winston Churchill Boulevard (see below). The speed limit on these interior residential roads will be reduced to 40 km/hour. Tenth Line will remain at 50 km/hr.

At the same time, Community Safety Zones will be established on McDowell Drive between Tenth Line and Ninth Line and on Churchill Meadows Boulevard between Britannia and Thomas Street. Speed limits in school zones will be further reduced to 30 km/hr.

The Neighbourhood Area Speed Limit (NASL) Project was approved by Council on January 22, 2020 as part of the 2020 Budget. This project will reduce speed limits in all neighbourhoods city-wide within one year. In addition, more than 200 neighbourhood school zones will have a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h, and school area community safety zones will be implemented on all City roadways for all school zones within the City.

These changes are an important part of the City’s Vision Zero strategy to seeks to eliminate serious motor vehicle collisions across the city. I anticipate the rest of Churchill Meadows will see the speed limit reduced similarly before the end of the calendar year.

SECTION 1 – Northwest Churchill Meadows

The area identified within the boundaries listed below is the next neighbourhood to receive speed limit changes and Community Safety Zones. The map below illustrates the proposed changes.

Proposed 40 km/h NASL within the following boundary lines (excluding roads defined as boundaries and otherwise posted):

·       Britannia Road West, Tenth Line West, Thomas Street and Ninth Line

30 km/h School Zone Speed Limit

·       Churchill Meadows Boulevard between Thomas Street and Pearlstone Drive/Emery Drive

·       McDowell Drive between Tenth Line West and Churchill Meadows Boulevard

Community Safety Zones

·       Churchill Meadows Boulevard between Britannia Road West and Thomas Street

·       McDowell Drive between Ninth Line and Tenth Line West

SECTION 2 – Northeast Churchill Meadows
