The rain held off – despite a forecast of heavy precipitation – and hundreds of residents enjoyed the ceremony and activities at our official Grand Opening of the Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Sports Park on October 9. I was joined by Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Councillors Mahoney and Starr and a few other elected officials for the unveiling of the plaque that will be added to the building’s interior foyer. It symbolizes the conclusion of all the hard work and dedication of city staff and contractors who designed and built this facility – as well as the important contribution of residents who provided valuable input into the project during our many public engagement sessions.

This new community centre is here for you to enjoy!  Please stop by to explore this stunning building and park – sign up for a class or a swim, kick or throw a ball around, bring your kids to the playground (and spray pad next summer) or for a skate this winter.  There’s plenty to do. Miway has a terminal on site with the Rtes. 9 and 35 buses operating on a regular schedule so it’s easy to get here by public transit.

Staff have produced a short video of the Grand Opening celebrations — view it here.
