This week, I put forward a motion to recommend that Council refer the matter of broadcasting audible expressions of faith to the City’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC). After thorough and thoughtful discussion and unanimous consent at Council, direction was given to have DIAC consider this matter at the earliest opportunity once advisory committees are allowed to meet again. In the meantime, the temporary measure of allowing a once-per-day Call to Prayer for those marking the holy month of Ramadan will continue for this year only, until May 24, 2020.
