On Nov. 14, I had the honour and long-awaited pleasure of putting the ceremonial shovel in the ground for our beautiful community centre and sports park. Surrounded by Councillors Matt Mahoney and John Kovac, staff from Facilities, Recreation and Transportation departments, and dozens of local residents, my Ward 10 staff – David Raakman and Joanne Lebold – and I marked this special milestone as we moved an important step closer to constructing what will be a well-used and much-loved recreational amenity and gathering hub for our community and beyond. Not only that – the building will look stunning; its design has already won an award. Congratulations to architects David Miller and Chris Burbidge of MJMA along with our staff on their recognition at the Canadian Architects Award of Excellence ceremony in November. Now let’s start building this beautiful facility! The initial work of bringing clean fill (that is, lots of dirt) to the site has already begun! Follow the progress through my eNewsletter and on this page my website.
